A- Sart with a circle this one has 24 sides
B- Create a cylinder divide it into 24 slices match # of sides group it, then draw spiral outside of group
C- Erase group “Save copy of spiral as a Component for future uses”
D- Clone, resize, & add lines as needed. Draw shape you want centered on one end of the trail you just made. Use follow me tool It may not be right the first time, unless you are lucky so use undo & tweak path & try again. May not work in shape but this is how I make spirals
E- Finished ( I left this path in but you will want to remove it.)
Some parts do not show up in player, if you want .skp version just tell me where to send it! Don’t put email address in comments use Send a message On profile page!

Will work in SketchUp I’m sure. Doing it in Shape will require some workarounds and imagination – I think. I’ll have to try it!
