Dassault Systèmes has announced 3DVIA Shape 2.0, the latest release of its free, online 3D modeling software featuring an all new and expanded 3D remix capability. This new feature makes creating and publishing 3D content incredibly easy by allowing users to build 3D scenes with models on the 3DVIA.com content library.
“The new 3DVIA Shape further extends 3D content creation to a whole new set of users and provides a new outlet for our existing 3D artists to share their work,” said David Laubner, director of product marketing at 3DVIA. “The new 3D remix capability not only makes 3D publishing easier, but also more fun. We’re excited to see what our user community will create.”
The remix functionality is accessed through a search panel within the product’s user interface. Users can search models on 3DVIA.com, select the models they want and import them directly into their scene. With remix, users can create models of just about anything and publish them online with a few clicks of a mouse. For example, a user who builds a 3D house can accessorize it with furniture, cars and more using models posted by the over 45,000 and growing registered users of the site.
With the addition of the new 3D remix feature, 3DVIA Shape 2.0 now provides three main areas of functionality:
- SHAPE: Express ideas in 3D with a simple, but powerful 3D modeling software designed so that anyone can use it
- REMIX: Edit and modify Shape models published by other users, or skip right to constructing complete 3D scenes with models posted by the 3DVIA community
- PUBLISH: Publish and share work directly through 3DVIA.com, on blogs, profiles or Web pages with the embeddable 3DVIA interactive player
Additional upgrades in this release include significant improvements to the user interface, in-product video tutorials and other design and performance enhancements based on feedback from the thousands-strong 3DVIA.com community.
