Amazing crane/chopper…
another beauty from smike…

thanks for including me in the list :) also got the “smike was here tag” :)

(the rear tires seem to be bit larger than the one’s i found in the reference pics/links… did you refer some other pics as well?? or am i getting them wrong??)

no i dont think so when i look at the pictures i can see that they really seems to be a bit larger than they should be.
i didnt make any presice mesurament i must admit but did it with my eyes only
i think its maybee because i just could not get the gear main arm as long as it is on the real aircraft so i was focused on that and not the weels
and okay my kilroy tag was/is placed on a very easy spot to notice this will bee changed

We may have to start a new rating system for your models smike! Instead of just stars, we’ll have to add galaxies :).

Phenomenal model and fantastic presentation!

I can remember as a kid being awed the first time I saw footage of a Skycrane in action. It blew me away that it was all about lifting and nothing else. The single-minded focus on that one activity is just so obvious. I love things that are engineered for function, rather than beauty and then end up being beautiful because of it. That’s also the basis for my love of trucks (although the latest ones are more like Las Vegas hotels than functional work beasts).

well a lot of the credits should go to the portugise model builder for without hes totally outstanding model and kindness publicing his amazing pictures on all the details and specally the cocpit interior i would never had ended up with this result

and when making the presentation i noticed quiet a lot of erros on the model
the mani hull engine bottom is clearly to narrow should be higher
abu was so kind to notice the rear wheels.
the upper cockpit windows inner hull is not covering all the outer hull sites several red places can be seen
forgot the the black frame on the small side window
the front actually has one more hatch leading to the space / control room under the cockpit floor
forgot the hatch in the bottom of small cockpit beside the crane operator box
the danger sign on the wall between the operator and the entrance is turning backwards when seen looking in the operators windows
the cockpit roof item with a hole in it is missing a oval plate on the top.
(havent figured out what it is good for this item)

and Don i like the cockpit on this one its in my eyes baeutyfull.

there is only one thing i dont understand..
why is most engine parts and the the rotor engine to the tale rotors not covered at all.
would the maintance and errotion not be very high not protected agains the weather and mainly rain / water..
or does it only operate in sunshine..
even the water fire gear tanks engine / machine is placed in a tunnel in the middle open to both sides..
would two simpel hatces on each side not be cheaper than the cost of the wheaters impact on it

Excellent work “Try not to be so mean a self critic” Nobody is perfect & you will always see flaws No one else would notice. I understand exactly what you’re saying, when people ooh & ahh over one of my models, (it happens sometimes) thats not what I see, I only see what I left out or did wrong.

i like the back
especially the seat, but in the water tank mode,i see no use for it
and near the aidbox…all the 3dvia important users…including me :)

That’s a good question smike. Two thoughts on the lack of covers:

1 – Weight – the whole mission is to be to lift as much as possible, so get rid of everything else that can be.

2 – Heat – it probably operates a lot of the time on missions at maximum capacity. Managing that thermal load might have been avoided by letting the main rotors and travel velocity do the job. Aerodynamic considerations probably aren’t as important as in most other helicopters either.

Maybe they have canvas covers for times when they’re not flying?
