The David Laserscanner looks really cool. I’m thinking about picking one up. Do you have any other models you’ve made with it?
Oh wait… you can BUILD it?! Did you build yours?
“Oh wait… you can BUILD it?! Did you build yours?”
Yes, that’s exactly what I did ! And that’s what you’re supposed to do ! ;-)
To scan 3D models, all you need is :
-a webcam
-a laser (starting at 15€ I think)
-a printer and some paper.
-the software, available online for free.
You have to build the “corner” (see http://www.david-laserscanner.com/ ) yourself : basically it’s just two planes, but they must have an exact 90° angle..
A cheap solution is to use walls, or a drawer (that’s what I did) ; you can print and stick / glue the pattern ok it.
Just take a look at this :

this is far from being complicated in the beginning. Of course, the more precise your corner / scanning / laser / webcam in, the better it will be in the end.

Here are all the models I’ve made so far ; my first scans were not very nice, but it goes better and better : I improved the corner and tweaked my webcam parameters.
