Model uploaded by ilovegoodcheese 5 months ago

This is the personal hover car of the future. it can take off from land or water, and fly like a jet. It’s also powered by a nuclear battery, mounted behind the seat.

Made 100% in blender 3d.

check out work in progress and some renders on my photobucket account http://s597.photobucket.com/albums/tt53/ilovegoodcheese/amphibious%20hover%20jet/

here’s the same model with a different paint job http://www.3dvia.com/ilovegoodcheese/models/583C794E60724456

I’m still not sure if its worth subsurfing the model, because then it wont be usable in 3dvia shape. What would be more important in the challenge, for a model to have good polygon count, or for it to look realy smooth?

5 Stars from me too! I like the imaginative approach to all of the elements.

My background is in CAD, where file size is less important than getting the concept across as clearly and quickly as possible, I always like to see more detail, color and texture. But if we were in the office Juan would come over and whack me in the head “It’s all about the polycount!”.

So, it really is up to you!

Well sady, I guess I’ll take my whacks in the head from both of you. :)

You should have the GLSL function in the Player.

Wouldn’t Dr. Polycount come over and give you instructions more than whack you on the head?

@mynameisoscarjo
What do u mean GLSL in the player? I thought that was only in the blender viewer. Is it posible to use GLSL in the 3d player?

Dr. Polycount would just come over and say something calm and instructive. Now, Juan, on the other hand – is more whack-oriented. :)

I mean, get the OpenGL 2.0 language, with bump maps and stuffs like that.

It would be cool if the 3d player could display bump, spec, and normal maps, but i have no idea how open gl and glsl work.

That’s fantastic! Nicely done lighting and shadows! It just cracks me up!

Did you make it using the 3DVIA Mobile app and then some Photoshop?

I don’t know if it makes any difference, but if you want OpenGL, right click, choose settings, from drop down that says “DX” at the end, choose OpenGL.

@dswaverly I don’t have an iPhone, so I cant use the 3dvia mobile app. I rendered the whole thing directly in blender, but i used gimp to add the alpha to the shadow map, which i baked onto a plane in blender.
here is a screen shot of how i did it http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt53/ilovegoodcheese/amphibious%20hover%20jet/blenderworkinprogressrender.jpg

Astonishing!! It is amazing! I hope you win! Maybe change up the colors and add some stripes or flames? I think it is a bit too plain, but the texturing is great!

Yeah, racing stripes would look good on the front, I’m still messing around with some textures, my early textures for this model were a lot of filth and scratches, and baked shading, but I decided I liked the cleaner, crisper look that a model has with just solid colors, and the default shading in the player. I still may decide to add a little grime to it, to give it a slightly used look. http://i597.photobucket.com/albums/tt53/ilovegoodcheese/amphibious%20hover%20jet/hovercarworkinprogress8.jpg here is one of my earlier texture ideas that I abandoned because it was to grimy and old looking, and replaced it with just solid colors.

The color makes think it should be a Special Ops vehicle, but it’s a great funky concept – I want one in my driveway too!

Pure win. Now can you add a monkey driving it?
5 stars from me. 6 if you add the monkey.
