Sant’Antonio is a giant edifice, grown under a variety of different influences as shown by the exterior details. The Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua (Italian: Sant’Antonio da Padova) is the most remarkable church of Padua, visited as a place of pilgrimage by people from all over the world. The new basilica was begun in 1238 as a single-naved church, like that of St Francis of Assisi, with an apsidal chancel, broad transepts and two square nave bays roofed with hemispherical domes like that of San Marco, Venice. The style was Romanesque… —- SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA (ca. 1195 – June 13, 1231) also venerated as Saint Anthony of Lisbon, is a Catholic saint who was born in Lisbon, Portugal, as Ferdinand Martins de Bulhões to a wealthy family and who died in Padua, Italy.
