The David Laserscanner looks really cool. I'm thinking about picking one up. Do you have any other models you've made with it?

Yes, that's exactly what I did ! And that's what you're supposed to do ! ;-)

To scan 3D models, all you need is :
-a webcam
-a laser (starting at 15€ I think)
-a printer and some paper.
-the software, available online for free.

You have to build the "corner" (see http://www.david-laserscanner.com/ ) yourself : basically it's just two planes, but they must have an exact 90° angle..
A cheap solution is to use walls, or a drawer (that's what I did) ; you can print and stick / glue the pattern ok it.

Just take a look at this :
http://www.david-laserscanner.com/wiki/user_manual/getting_started
this is far from being complicated in the beginning. Of course, the more precise your corner / scanning / laser / webcam in, the better it will be in the end.

http://www.david-laserscanner.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=565
Here are all the models I've made so far ; my first scans were not very nice, but it goes better and better : I improved the corner and tweaked my webcam parameters.
