The same thing happened to me. I'm also using Maya 2008 (06/02/2007).

Quite weird indeed... This model was created using Dryad : http://dryad.stanford.edu/index.php ; it is free but it seems they're upgrading the software and you can't download it right now. Maybe you could check if you have the same issue with other Dryad models I uploaded : http://www.3dvia.com/search/models/tags/dryad If it still crashes, let's hope the next Dryad version will fix this...

Thanks shadows44 for the quick feedback! I took your suggestion and had the same crash results with - http://www.3dvia.com/shadows44/models/4FB5734557697B4D - so I guess we will have to wait for the update.

I guess there might be something wrong with the .obj files exported with Dryad... I hope the new version will soon be available.
