It's a Submarine that was supposed to harpoon a ship with a bomb then pull away to a 'safe' distance to detonate it. human powered from within via a crank
& yes i Know the spar was found to be on the bottom not the top but for many years it was thought to be like this I believe it was changed after it sank the first or second time.

Very nicely done historical model!

Unfortunately, our shaders make it confusing for viewers. The only way to see the excellent water is by changing to the Fresnel shader, which makes the submarine disappear until you zoom in through the "wall" of the water.

For more about the first submarine to sink an enemy ship go here - http://www.hunley.org/

Just deleting one half of the surrounding wall of water was an excellent idea! Now, when the model opens in the player you can see the ocean surface and still see the Hunley. Good solution.

You can access the different shaders available in the 3DVIA Player by placing your mouse over part of the model and holding down the middle mouse button. Keep it held sown and move the cursor/hand over the star-shaped tool (at about 10:00 US time on the dial). When you release the middle mouse button, the shader will change to the next one in the list. You do have to repeat this each time you want to change the shader.

Since you own this model, you can also save the changes you make by holding down the middle mouse button and moving over the "Save the current setting" button at about 7-8:00 US time on the dial). the thumbnail won't change, but each time someone opens the model your changes will be there.

I hope this helps :D

Lap top no mouse no scroll wheel also even with a mouse this lap top does not show the "star" shader control but the other controls are there? don't know why, probably the graphics card.
