Wow, Oh My, what a mess…
I have found serious trouble getting all in time online. (I only had this weekend to fix my heavy geometry model into 10MB)
Just for you guys at 3Dvia here’s some of my findings: – keeping the normals the way I created them in AliasStudio, every time I uploaded my model in either VRML, 3DS format, the normals would change on me…. – very awkward way of attaching textures. I was not able to attach any textures to my 3ds files… Hemispere’s Deep Exploration as well as Okino’s PolyTrans agreed with me and my textures/normals, however 3dvia did not… – the STL format produces a nice and compact file, however again the drawback is the texturing. I was only able to create single surface files. Would be nice to be able to combine files into a scene therfore creating the posibility of multiple textures/resolutions etc. in one scene file. – highlights are also not predictable which make creating chrome like materials harder.
Again, the time I had to get things right could very well be the reason for these problems to arrise.. Just had to post a model ;-)
Any way hope you like my model and any comments do help.
Cheers! Hans
Somehow the file size has changed after uploading and processing… strange…
This is the most accurate guitar on here. A Lot a detail to it. My favorite thing you did on it was to show some of the maple cap that’s under the binding in the cut away. Great job.
Well tanks for your comment!
I love details ;-) As I am now fooling around with texture mapping on my model I found that I am a NOOB here, as I am used to the NURBS thing never really had to worry about it. Right now smoothing my model and trying to get more out of the environment / reflections in order to get more realistic results (not so edged, especially the metal parts and the rear of the neck-headstock transition…)
Oh well, guess there is still a lot to learn!
Thanks again, cheers! Hans
Nice work!
kus, Jasha
Amazing details. This is one of my favorite challenge entries…
Thank you!!!!!
Although I am still working on my textureing…. finding a nice work flow and getting rid of some “child diseases” on the tuners, knobs and metal parts…
Anybody any idea on how to create nice 2d textures in Maya for shiny metals like gold, chrome and nickel? I am currently trying to convert 3d procedural textures into 2d textures so one would have more controle over the end result. I am very disappointed about how the metals (tuning gears, pickups and brigde parts) came out in the 3dviaMP….
