Sorry, can you perhaps explain what occupes means? See, I am really having a hard time getting the textures right, somehow they end up (looking like the normal direction is way of) incorrectly…. I do not know how to fix it other than trail and error…. Maybe you can help or give some hints… Texture coordinates are create in Maya’s UV editor, Materials added and export to 3ds is done in Deep Exploration from RightHemisphere… (but I do not think it is the software, I believe I am the one how’s goofing and does not really know what he’s doing ;-)

If you are using maya, I might be able to help. I will start by suggesting you use an obj export, to upload to the site. Whats even better is collada DAE format. You can download it for free on their webstie: www.feelingsoftware.com

Thank for your reply!
However, exporing to OBJ will result in a 40 MB size file…
I can reduce the geometry in the model, but then I will loose all detailing….
So I figured using Maya to convert from Alias wire to FBXDEA and have Deepexplorer convert to 3ds this sequence is sort of time consuming, but gives the smallest size file (aprox. 3-5 MB) without loosing too much detail.
Else I could have exported from within Alias to OBJ natively, but this always results in huge files. Thought I had all nailed down until I also generated UV coordinates for the whites and metal parts, this works fine for the whites in “DX9 shiny mode” but does not work for my metal and in “normal” mode (right click in 3dviaMP) it doesn’t work for the whites either. It looks like the normals have flipped, but there is no way I can tell for shure….
So yes you could say I am kinda stuck….

Oh sorry, I misunderstood your comment, again here is my sequence of convertion:
alias wirefile -> maya native import -> maya export FBX-DAE -> DeepExplorer export 3ds.
So I am checking the feelingsoftware now…. hope it can help me from maya to 3dvia!

Still 14MB after exporting with the collada plugin :-( does help though, now I am investgating conversion of 3d procedural textures to 2d texture maps, hope this makes texturing more controlable (?) cheers!

Wow just read about the collada plugin…. sound promising!!!!
