Hello everybody,
I've begun using Shape since 5-6 months and in the last weeks I've found it very usefull to model simple objects and environment. I've found very inefficient and not user friendly the saving procedure. Sometime in fact I try to modify an old model in order to have a new one but when I try to save the it as new it overwrites the previous version and the published version as well.
I know that behind this saving policy there are a lot of "things" but please try to make it more efficient or use the god blessed, tested and used all around the world FILE SYSTEM.
Hope this will be heard by someone.

You have been heard and you are not alone. I've been burned several times myself! The problem has been brought to the development team's attention. As soon as we have any more information we will pass it along.

Some new information has come to light.
First, I must give a huge amount of credit to a tiny group of individuals who are working on the free 3DVIA Shape product. They are dedicated and working **** solving problems and meeting company goals and standards. Their schedule must match the overall Dassault Systemes schedule and DS internal product initiatives, which I can't talk about without being in real trouble.
They have fixed several bugs in the Save and Save As functions which will be in the next release. I have been burned again several times since my previous message, so I'm as eager as you are for them to be released!
Save/Save As procedures are related to how DS handles the same procedure in its many other products and the specific needs of the Shape product that changed to allow an Offline Mode. The Offline Mode has complicated the code architecture long after the core code was developed.
One suggestion that I do have that can help right now is to download and save the existing file as a 3DXML file before you make any changes. This can then be uploaded over any mistakes that might occur. It has saved my bacon several times. Working while online also helps reduce the problems that I've had.
I know that these aren't the exact answers that we want, but we are listening and moving in the right direction.

While your at it, could you please suggest to the developers to try and work on the copy/paste aspect within 3D Shape? Currently you can only copy/paste within the currently opened file and not into a 2nd file, open simutaineously with the current file you wish to copy/paste from. The purpose of why I ask this is that if someone creates multiple objects in one file and should want to actually create separate individual files of each object, the task is somewhat like playing roulette...lol. If you do not fully understand all aspects of the current saving process someone could essentially over write the current opened file by simply wanted to extract one object from it.
By implemting a versitle (normal) copy/paste process it could be as easy as selecting the desired objects and copy/pasting them into a new file for future use. Just a quick thought on improving the overall performance of this software.

Why don't you upload a finished model, edit it, erase the parts you don't want, choose publish as, and import into another model using search bar at the bottom of the screen?
