Hi,
It would be great to be able to open/import 3DS files in the app from other applications on my iPad. For instance to be able to pull up 3DS files in emails, or from my Dropbox and do "Open In..." 3DVIA... Rather than having to find a computer, upload them to the website, then find some coverage with the iPad and download them back from the web service.
Just a thought...
interesting thought, this might technically be possible, I'll be sure to pass this idea around

I just got the 3DVIA Mobile HD app for iPad and realized that there is no functionallity to use models already on my iPad, or as James suggested "Open in..." as other similar Apps (AutoCAD WS, Drawvis, etc). Or to grab a model from a personal server via Wifi, or FTP, or even pull something from my email...
Everything must be uploaded and then downloaded through the site... You guys must have excellent 3G or always wifi connected... I was all excited when I got this app as I have very little time at my home PC, but now can only look at default models.
Kind of takes away from the whole mobile concept a little bit... Awesome at looking at the default models though...

You and me both, I recently started using dropbox on my iPhone, laptop and desktop, and i don't think I will ever go back!
This seriously needs implementing! I have hundreds of files that I store on my mobileme account. As I regularly find myself working between my laptop and desktop PC.
I am annoyed that this isn't specified in the Apps information, as I wouldn't have made the purchase otherwise. I am not uploading all those files so this is a waste of money and space for me.
+1 to this - if we could open models from another cloud storage app it would be insanely useful around the office
To be clear, you would still need to upload your models to the website, but the idea of developing a desktop interface so that you don't have to use a browser to upload is still valid and one I would like to see developed. Naturally multiple file uploads would be supported. 3DVIA remains the hosting solution for your models, it just becomes easier and more convenient to use.
I should've read the fine print on this app. Assumed I could just open files with an "open with" function in iPad mail or from Dropbox. Then realized I have to upload models to the website first, then realized I have pay $9.99 per month to upload non-public content? My fault for not researching it first but also disappointed at the same time that it's set up this way. Thought this was gonna be a superfast solution for viewing models on the go and away from a Computer, turns out its pretty much useless.

Could really use this funtionality. When I click on my model from Safari, to view in 3D, the app fires. Would be great to fire the app from an email attachment or a shared dropbox type folder...

I agree with the main line of this thread. I paid for this app to be to view 3D models that we create in SolidWorks at meetings and on the go using an iPad. Having to upload everything into public view means that we can't use it at all without breaching confidentiality, so it's useless for us. This was not made clear before buying the app.
Please make it possible to open files directly from dropbox or email attachments
