how to import 3dxml file to 3ds max
how to import 3dxml file to 3ds max
3DVIA.com currently automatically converts all 3dxml files into Collada DAE format, which can easily be imported into Maya and Max. Just upload your 3dxml file to your 3DVIA Account and using the download option, download the DAE file.

Yeah I don't look kindly on spammers.
The dae conversion doesn't seem to work well in 3ds max 2011 import...
What kind of problems are you experiencing?
and are you importing with the native dae importer of Max, or one that uses the collada schema?
Did you extract the files from the zip? You must go into the zip and press File>Extract all or Extract all Files. Then you can choose the DAE file to use. Which program did yo use to create the original model? Shape?
Hi
I encounter some difficulties with 3Dvia 3Dxml > dae conversion.
In fact i upload a 5 mb 3Dxml, and the resulting DAE is about 50 mb.
I wonder why it is so big dae file. I can't use the dae because it is too big (into papervision 3D for example, it doesn't parse entirely).
is there a better way to convert 3Dxml to dae?
Thanks for help
Hi Jaaaab,
If your 3DXML have been generated by CATIA it may be composed of binary descriptions reducing the file size instead of pure XML. Your Collada file size could be corresponding to an xml based format..
You may try to reduce the number of triangles inside CATIA before creating the 3DXML file. For that increase the sag or use DMU optimizer options.
that's correct it's generated by CATIA.
What's sag or DMU?
thanks
The sag value defines the chordal deviation for curves and surfaces
In order to modify the Sag you need to go to Tools>>Options>>Display>>Performance
The "3d accuracy" setting controls the tessellation of surfaces."Tessellation" means that the surfaces of your geometry are built using triangles. .
If you selelect "Fixed" mode you mays set a fixed sag value (from 0.01 to 10) for calculating tessellation on all objects, You may put a high value for example 8 and you will see that the number of triangles decreases.
DMU OPTIMIZER is a dedicated workbench inside DMU Navigator product.
Hi 3DRS
I increased the SAG value to 8 in Catia, then saved the 3Dxml but when i upload it on 3Dvia and download as DAE, it's still 50mo!
I'm lost about DMU optimizer, is it a module in catia? I'm desperate to obtain a light conversion...
Thanks a lot!

Here is small tutorial if it helps.
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately it didn't helped.
I closed and reload the model as you said in Catia in order the 3D accuracy take effect, but it's always the same.
The dae file i download from 3Dvia is heavy : 7mo zip file gives a 50mo dae file.
maybe somebody can give it a look and tell me why it's so heavy? can i use this model into flash papervision or is it simply too big? (i'm not experienced in 3D)
i tried loading the big DAE file into 3DSMAX and then using this script but it doesn't work (it generates empty as3 class)
Thanks a lot!
Hi Jaaab,
Your model is correct in term of SAG reduction but is too big to be used in flash.
If you just want to show the model on your web page why you don't syndicate the 3dvia.com player by using the code inside the Embed tab on your model page.
You may also use this model inside a 3DVIA Scenes and embed it as well.
Or at least create a dedicated review experience with 3DVIA Studio
you need to be a paid member for that, so that sucks , so it is impossible
Yep since the initial conversation took place, we have rolled out new account options. While currently you can only access the dae conversion of your models with one of our paid accounts, we are investigating offering a number of conversions for free with your regular 3DVIA Account! Stay tuned for updates!
So too make a loooooong story short.
There is no way today to just import 3Dxmls into 3DS.
There are no free importers either..
There are only ways which you either have to pay i.e. subscription or but importers..
So, we either stop using composer or stop using 3ds...
no one can give us a clear way to proceed.. except to pay for a standard file type importation..
feedback is welcomed..
i do agree. I'm using blender, not catia or 3d studiomax, and I simply need to convert a 3dxml file to anything readable. I can even pay for this but not a monthly fee ..
