    Q: What is 3DVIA Mobile?
    A: 3DVIA Mobile allows you to search, comment and view in 3D all the models in your 3DVIA account plus the vast majority of our 3D Community models. Additionally you can take pictures with your iPhone and collage them with any model on 3DVIA.

    Q: With which mobile devices is 3DVIA Mobile accessible?
    A: 3DVIA Mobile works with the following mobile devices:

    1. Apple iPhone G3
    2. Apple iPhone G3S
    3. Apple iPod Touch G2
    4. Apple iPod Touch G3

    Q: Is 3DVIA Mobile Free?
    A: 3DVIA Mobile is available for just 1.99 USD.

    Q: How do I get my models to show up on my iPhone?
    A: After you install 3DVIA Mobile from iTunes or the App Store, you will see the tab to view your own models. Models, either private or public and using any creative commons license, need to be below 40,000 triangles on the iPhone 3G/iPod Touch G2 and 100,000 triangles on the iPhone 3GS/iPod Touch 3G.

    Update! New limits in place, check your Mobile App settings to set the limit from S(small),M(medium),and L(large)!

    Low: iPhone, iPod Touch 1st, iPod Touch 2nd
    S = 40'000
    M = 60'000
    L = 100'000

    Medium: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4, iPad, iPad2
    S = 100'000
    M = 200'000
    L = 300'000

    Q: Can I use a photo I've already taken?
    A: No, the Collage ability within 3DVIA Mobile requires you to take the picture from within the Mobile App.

    Q: What's new in 3DVIA Mobile 1.1?
    A: Some of the changes have already been included above, namely the increase triangle limit on particular mobile devices and that it's now a paid Application. Here are the major new features in 1.1:

    1. Email your creations from within 3DVIA Mobile!
    2. Revamped navigation system using One-touch 3D manipulators
    3. Full Screen 3D Display
    4. High Definition Image Rendering for Export and Mail (960 x 1380 px resolution)
    5. More realistic compositing: shadow and auto lighting correction
    6. Model Rating capabilities
    7. Detailed model and model owner information, owner links by clicking on banner.

    Q: I have a questions that is not answered in this F.A.Q!
    A: Post it bellow and we'll answer all your questions!

    We'll be adding to this F.A.Q. often so come back frequently

    I published a model from SolidWorks to 3dvia. I can see it on 3dvia.com using my laptop but when I try to view it on the iPad using 3dvia mobile it gives me back an error message: cannot open exceeded number of triangles of 100000, or something to that effect. It did the same on low resolution export as well.

    tried using 3dvia composer to do the same and I got the same message on a much simpler model

    Any advice on best practices for getting models out of SolidWorks to view on iPad
    Thanks
    Alex

    How close are the models to the 100,000 triangle limit? I know composer has a simplification algorothim built in that could help. We are working on a balance between the complexity of models and the fluidity of using 3DVIA Mobile. One of the reasons for the limit was to ensure a good experience. If clicked on a model and it took 10m to download, the inicial impression would be a broken app, unresponsive and so forth.

    Feedback and suggestions are always appreciated from our users, so we know what is an acceptable balance

    hi there,
    I have an application similar to LEgo Blocks,
    can 3DVia Mobile use to insert and assemble blocks like in LEGO ?

    Please advise, what is needed and can be done with 3Dvia Mobile.
    Thanks

    Hi. Is it possible to upload 3dvia from an email?
    Or With email is rather the right wording. The idea is that if I am emailed a sketchup file and receive it on my iPad, as it is now I can't upload it via your webpage basic uploader.
    I would like to email the file to my account on 3dvia from my ipad so that it is converted and then I can download it and view it on my iPad.

    There are two things here, a problem and a feature request.
    Can you tell us what browser you are using, and what behavior you are experiencing when uploading with the basic uploader?

    I will forward your feature request to the dev team

    Hi, I use google sketchup for my modeling, and I export it as .kmz file. I get this error whenever I upload a "heavy" 3D model to 3dvia. May I know whether there are any solutions atm, or is 3dvia going to come up with an update that will deal with this issue?

    Thanks in advance!

    At the moment, you can increase your webspace and upload limit on the website by upgrading to a paid account but the 100,000 triangle limit is hardcoded on the Mobile app do to mobile hardware limitations. This limit is being constantly reviewed and as soon as we are able to, it will increase. Hopefully with the release of the next iPhone

    I found out that the latest release had new limitations posted. I will update the FAQ with these numbers as well. The S,M,L reffer to the settings for the 3DVIA Mobile app and 3DVIA Mobile HD app were you can set your size prefferences in the settings control pannel.

    Low: iPhone, iPod Touch 1st, iPod Touch 2nd
    S = 40'000
    M = 60'000
    L = 100'000

    Medium: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, iPod Touch 4, iPad, iPad2
    S = 100'000
    M = 200'000
    L = 300'000

    Tripple the triangle count! I've also heard that we are working on pushing the limit even higher with the Ipad 2.

    You can view the triangle count on the model page on 3DVIA.com, its under the Stats tab.

    Have you tried restarting your iPad, that sometimes fixes any problems with recently installed applications.

    Can you provide a link to the file, even if its private?
    also your machine specs might help
    A 1.6 million triangle will take a while to load, and it might run out of memory before its finished, making the system unstable.

    my question
    Is it possible to connect 3dvia mobile to our own database like VPM 1.6 or Enovia V6?
    or is there any other solution?

    Is there any way on the iPad or iPhone to play animations created with 3DVIA Composer? I am only seeing a model that I can zoom, pan and rotate.
    I'd like to be able to see my animated instructions.
