Co-hog Toys Catalog

Description | Stats | Embed

This is a 3D model of the original Co-Hog Toys catalog. Each model line page was separate and the complete set was put into the folded card container to keep them clean. The tab went into the slot to keep it closed and it all fit neatly into a 6” x 9” mailing envelope (no internet back then).

If you click the aliasing tool when you view the model, you can actually zoom in and read all of the text and get a better look at the pictures too.

Have fun and tell me which ones I should model next…

very well done Don. This catalog was black / white back then.
Ws this a question of costs? I am just curious
Btw: I like the police car the best :)

thanks a lot Don for sharing this amazing catalog :)
i liked the Rabbit Rally car…
@alfredix: color printing would have been very expensive in the ‘good old days’ (this catalog is almost 30 years old going by don’s comments on the 4X4 model). infact until a few years back it was expensive even in this part of the world… so i guess cost would have been one of the factors why this was in B/W…

Thank you Alfred and Abu!

Yes, printing a catalog at all was very expensive (dinosaur taxis were extremely expensive too), so we compromised on a duotone process – http://www.canprint.com.au/printing/faq/show.php?id=21 – on a heavy creamy stock, which gave us an image richness that goes way beyond black and white, but only involves one more printing plate.

My wife and I met (love at first sight!) at an ad agency where I was Executive Design Director, so we both had the background to understand our choices and we were helped immensely by a great designer and copywriter. The printers were masters and made their Heidelberg press sing a beautiful song for us.

The Rabbit, especially the GTI, was a big deal at the time and it certainly fit our style of design. :)

Oh yes, an easier way to read the individual pages is to just click on the “view all…” under “Textures”. That will take you to a page where you can view and read each page just by clicking on the thumbnail. :)

Alfred – your police car is finally ready – http://www.3dvia.com/dswavely/models/BBE9DCB18395A7B9 – I’ll have to make a special green and white version for Germany, right?

Nicely done, even though it isn’t 3d.

I did build the gray folder in Shape, so at least that part is 3D. :)

I have one of the yellow race cars (Formula 1?) I bought over 30 years ago. I believe I paid $30.00……maybe a little more. It measures 6” long. The workmanship is unbelievable!! Hindsight……I wish I could of afforded more at the time. Does anyone know where I can find some to buy? I’ve searched eBay for the past few years and found nothing. Can anyone help me? I would like to collect them. Thank you, Ransom Sanders, Beaverton, Oregon – ransomsan@msn.com

Well hi Randy!

Yes indeed, on 9/27/1982 I shipped you one yellow F1 racer, for which you paid $48 + $2.40 shipping. That makes it just over 27 years ago! Believe it or not, I still have the paper invoice #8251, which is the only reason I know the specifics.

Thank you for your compliments! Co-Hog Toys was great for nine years, but reality (in the form of triplets) meant that I had to stop and get a real job.

I have no idea where to find any others that may still be out there. I don’t even have one myself – just a bunch of bits and pieces and some really wonderful memories from people just like you! Thanks.
