Built in 1841 by the Danish architect Christian Hansen, it was the first university in the Balcans and the Eastern Mediterranean. It is a strictly neoclassical building in a double ‘‘T’‘ shape. The ionic capitals in the entrance are exact replicas of those in the Propylaia of the Acropolis. It is part of the ‘‘Athenian Trilogy’‘ in Panepistimiou street.
