It was built from 1887-1902 according to the plans made by Theofil Hansen. The middle building copies the temple of Hefaistos in the ancient Agora. It is a perfect example of mature neoclassicism and it is a part of the ''Neoclassical Trilogy of Athens'' in Panepistimiou street.
