Woohoo! 100,000+ Registered Users.

Over 100,000 users.

We are proud to announce that 3DVIA.com has surpassed 100,000 registered users! This comes just a little over a year after 3DVIA.com was updated in March 2008.

Reaching 100,000 registered users is a very important milestone for us as it speaks to our thinking that making 3D content creation accessible to people from all backgrounds is something people want and enjoy. But beyond that, it requires a BIG thank you to our beloved and loyal community. Your continued support, feedback and passion for 3D drives us to do what we do and provide a positive place for learning and sharing all things 3D.

This is the first model uploaded by the first 3DVIA.com user.

I think perhaps Omind said it best when he wrote me, “there are all levels of modelers that upload to 3DVIA. 3DVIA’s atmosphere is great for those mid-level amateurs like me and experienced creators too. The feedback I’ve received from those more experienced than I has been friendly and helpful.” Thank you Omind!

Looking back at where we were when we started to where we are now, I can’t help but get excited to think of where we’ll go. And while I can’t predict the future, I can say with absolute certainty that we have plenty of great things in store for you that we can’t wait to share!

Thank you, thank you!

  1. Hello 3Dvia team,

congratulations for surpassing the 100.000 user milestone.
you all have done a great job in providing a nice looking and good working environment for all of us “hobby modelers”. It is a great place to share the models, discuss with and learn from other people.

Especially for me it is very exiting, becasue 3DVia is THE ONLY place for me to share my models. Due to their size, nobody else can handle them :) Your great 3DXML technology made it possible for me to go public. Thank you very much for this.

Special thanks also to your community managers, who are doing a great job in supporting the users on their daily problems. They always have some great comments and it is always a pleasure to discuss with them.

Keep going guys, it’s fun to be here :)

    Best regards
    Alfredix

  2. i only just joined 3dvia by hearing of it by a mate on the sketchup warehouse, which i have been on for about two years now, well done everybody, getting 100 thousand users in 3 years is amazing.

    • Thank you for your kind words hobbnob. We actually registered over 100,000 users in about 1 year. We re-launched the site in March of 2008 and here we are in June 2009 with over 100,000 supportive and cool 3DVIA community friends like yourself!

  3. i don’t understand
i get to the ’serch’ tab, most recent models, and reached at the 100th page.
there is a ‘flying machine’ that wasn’t there now several months, when i searched the first time
i had a comment on a catia model telling that was the oldest, and now i see that, over 3 years ago!?

    • The search lists the models by most popular or by most recently updated, so the last model is not technically the oldest, just the one needed the most commenting love from us :)

    • Users can delete models, make them private and then make them public again at any time. This does not change the date of original publication, so a model can seem to appear from nowhere, when actually the user just made it public again.

Each time you remix/change an existing model it will appear in the recent history list again, but the original publication date still does not change. If you remix and then “Save as” then it will appear as a “new” model.

This also continuously changes the number of models and other things too.

  4. Heartiest Congratulation to the 3DVIA team for this milestone!!! And wishing all the very best for the Future!!!

    Warm Regards,
    Abu

  7. To celebrate, I think that we should all share our stories of how we found 3dvia. Here is mine.
My little sister, Hannah, loves nickjr.com. One day, she needed help, because they had posted a 3d game and (at that time it was called virtools player) was not downloaded yet. So I downloaded it for her. I got curious, so I went to the virtools website, and they had some sample games. Those were the most realistic Internet PC games I think I have ever seen. They were almost beaten by shockwave. Anyways, I wanted more, so I kept playing them. But unfortunately, they kept changing the name. One day, they changed it to “3dvia.com player” so I went to 3dvia.com. But I had no idea what a 3d model was until I used what the player was made for. The only reason I signed up was I saw shape and thought I could make video games with it like the ones that were really realistic. But even if I couldn’t, it was probably a lot more fun than that. At the time mvcomputers “Red Lobster” was the most popular model, and phong was a very popular artist. So that was my first comment. The red lobster was the first page I ever commented on. And ever since I first downloaded the “3d life player” I have always thought they should change the name back to virtools. But they have another product called virtools now. So yeah. Note: None of this means 3dvia is confusing.

    • That’s a great idea tomy! Your story is a great start! mvcomputers’ “Red Lobster” and the plate that he put it on were really great models – still miss him. Thanks for sticking with us through all the changes! You’ve been a wonderful addition to the community!

Does anyone else have a story that they’d like to share?

      Don
