GDC Daily: Day 3-A 3DVIA Studio Star is Born

Today was another BUSY day at GDC. We are all very tired from standing on our feet and from the excitement of the show, but we continue to have lots of fun with booth visitors AND we continue to make time to take pictures.
Formal pictures…

Here you see some of us acting very professional in our 3DVIA uniforms…group shot to come in today’s post. Back Row (left to right): Romain Sididris and Cliff Medling. Front Row (left to right): Christine Moses, Virgile Delporte, me and Iain Bisset (a.k.a. Dr. Polycount).
…and not so formal pictures…

We get creative with the camera. Virgile Delporte, Christine Moses, Cliff Medling, Iain Bissett’s beard and me.

Iain Bissett and Eric Miffre pretend to be tired.

Marc DiGregorio and Iain Bissett give the “what’s up” wave.
OK, enough of that. Back to business!
There were several exciting events and product discussions in the booth today (which I’ll highlight below), but 3DVIA Studio really stole the show.
3DVIA Studio
Today there was great interest in 3DVIA Studio. We gave several tech demos to students, professionals and press alike and all were very impressed by how such a powerful tool could be given away for FREE. The most common question yesterday was, “so, what’s the catch?” To which we answered, “there is NO catch,” then promptly directed people to where they could download the software.
The Fog Lifts and Klaus Returns
Klaus, the lead artist on “Billions, Save Them All,” was able to escape the fog of Frankfurt. He arrived in San Francisco yesterday afternoon and was able to present the making of Billions.

Klaus, we’re happy to see you here clearly sin fog.
Partner Presentations
We had several editions to our partner presentation lineup yesterday, which I’ll go over below. In addition, I made sure to charge my camera battery all night so I was able to capture footage of some of the presentations I missed out on yesterday.
Little Chicken
Thomas from Little Chicken gave an excellent presentation on LC’s philosophy and techniques for quickly creating and delivering fast and fun games for clients using 3DVIA Virtools.

Sequoia Studios
Jim Kiggens from Sequoia Studios made a great presentation on the making of Survival Master, a serious game that teaches players to use math and analytical skills to escape and survive various situations.

Veil Entertainment
Joe Wagner of Veil Entertainment showed off Rise and Ruin, the company’s other multiplayer card game and talked about future plans to a full crowd today. Veil is constantly running Rise and Ruin matches and improving the game, which was created in 3DVIA Virtools.

3DVIA Studio Tech Demo
Romain Sididris did an excellent job presenting our newest member to the 3DVIA product suite, 3DVIA Studio. All the key features of 3DVIA Studio were covered in Romain’s tech demo, including the 3DVIA.com integration, fast debugging tools, visual scripting and more.

The Return of the Pigeon
We hadn’t seen the pigeon all day. Just when we thought all hope was lost, he appeared. He swooped down from the rafters and landed in the food court.

Team Dinner
After another very long day, the team went out for a dinner before going to bed.

From left around the table to right: Martin St-Germain, Stephane Mader, Romain Sididris, Eric Miffre, Cliff Medling, Iain Bissett, me, Virgile Delporte, Marc DiGregorio and Klaus!
Till tomorrow!

Do you think the AMD folks would mind if I put that 6 panel screen in my office? Does it get HBO?
I think it plays Laxy Raiders!
Where’s Juan??
I’m right here!
Don’t worry Matt, there is plenty of Juan in the latest post. He may have hidden from the camera on Day 3, but Day 4 is a different story…
Thanks a lot for your report Emmy.
Congratulations to all the team !
The whole team was so nice and friendly! I plan on visiting your guys’ booth next year at GDC. :)
I don’t see Juan in any of the pictures. Is he invisible to cameras?
And nice to see the pidgeon again. I saw it nearly everytime I stopped by the booth.
I have an aura around me that interferes with electronic components: computers seem to work around me, but cameras wont :)
This booth was defiantly the most entertaining booth of the show for me. The team at the booth was extremely friendly, fun, and just a joy to be around. I’m very interested in 3dVia and I’ll be promoting you guys wherever I can. The one thing that I’m slightly disappointed with is that there doesn’t appear to be any mac support at the moment.
The games you guys showed were fun, the support you guys had for them was outstanding, and the product you’re pushing seems awesome. I’m really hoping to see big things from you guys in the future. Best of luck to all of you, and thanks for the great show!
Anthony,
Thank you for all of your kind words. We were very happy you stopped by and enjoyed yourself in our booth. I hope you get a chance to download 3DVIA Studio, play around with it and let us know what you think (In addition to our many other products: 3DVIA Scenes, 3DVIA Store, the community, etc.).
As far as Mac support goes, we are planning to release 3DVIA Studio for Mac later this year. Keep in mind, this won’t only be for Player support, but for developing as well (a.k.a., you’ll be able to program games, etc. in 3DVIA Studio on the Mac)!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on our beta products,
Emmy
Thank you for the report! It really made me want to be there with you ! (Note : Some naysayers may argue, it is not that difficult to achieve but don’t listen to them).
Good job.
Will you upload Romain’s presentation? A guided tour of Studio from him certainly brings a lot across, especially in comparison to Virtools.
Hello Dom,
Yes! We will be uploading Romain’s presentation to 3DVIA TV in the coming weeks, along with all of the partner presentations that were given at GDC 2010 in the 3DVIA Booth. We are currently in the process of formatting these, so please check back frequently in the next few weeks. (Romain gave an EXCELLENT presentation, by the way, which I agree will bring a lot across).
Thank you for the comment,
Emmy
