3DVIA Top 10 models – 023

The best models uploaded to 3DVIA.com during the week of Saturday, April 4th through Friday, April 10th are highlighted here. This is the 23rd post with the purpose of bringing models to your attention that we all may have missed during that week. I’m making a concentrated effort to catch up on and spotlight the really great models that you’ve been uploading. There will be more than one posting each week until I have caught up with you. Your great modeling efforts have not been forgotten!
Easy links to the previous Top 10 lists: 001 – 002 – 003 – 004 – 005 – 006 – 007 – 008 – 009 – 010 – 011 – 012 – 013 – 014 – 015 – 016 – 017 -018 – 019 – 020 – 021 – 022
Just so everyone knows, the order that the Top 10 are displayed is based on color, type of model and how I’m feeling, not any particular ranking. I just rearrange them until I like the way it looks. It’s as simple as that!
Be sure to check out the models that received Honorable Mentions too!
Our users live all over the world, so I include in my comments where each modeler is from. It’s great that language and distance are not barriers when we’re all sharing in 3D! (Modelers may choose not to share where they are from, so some countries of origin will remain a mystery.)
Romo EMI 01 Racer is a “sci fi race jet” by romoemi that looks like it could pierce any speed record you choose! The canopy detailing is particularly well done. [romoemi is originally from Romania, but now models in the US]
EB6 4X 7cc by ebsource could be an amazing piece of sculpture, but it is actually “an evaporator, for use in high vacuum, 1 × 10-12 vacuum. From solid to a gas, Gold, silver, etc., also dielectrics like ruby, emerald, silicon, etc.” We count on this type of equipment “for coating laser disks, compact disks, video disks, computer chips, eye glasses etc.” ebsource used SolidWorks 2009 SP2.1.
Henry More or Less by lingling is so funny (the title) so well done (the modeling) and so instructive (who is Henry Moore?) that it is a truly wonderful 3D creation! [lingling is from Belgium]
This ROV Inspection (Remotely Operated underwater Vehicle) by Marquis is great fun for us to explore! We don’t often have the chance to go around, over, under and as close to a vehicle like this. Marquis did a thorough job using Dassault Systemes V6. [Marquis is from France]
BEAGLE has been lovingly modeled by angelbrotons. With sails full of wind, well done rigging and lots of other details, all she needs is a crew! [angelbrotons is from Spain]
Warbird Guitar by sandman14 is a wild example of his fantastic electric guitar collection created using Google SketchUp. [sandman14 is from the US]
Camera by isaacmiller1993 is almost photographic in its engineering detail. It looks like you could pick it up and start shooting! DAZ Studio 2.3 was used for its creation.
Grand Staircase by toymaker is grand indeed! The sinuous bannister curves, baluster and post details are exquisite! View it from many different angles to really enjoy this beauty modeled in Google SketchUp. [toymaker is from the US]
M730 Chaparral by alfredix was originally done in Mechanical Desktop 5 with these amazingly vivid colors. It certainly is still well-detailed to match the real thing. I actually used Photoshop to bring all the colors down to grays, but this looks so much better that I left it that way. You may need New Orleans during Mardi Gras or the Hindu spring festival of Holi for this camo job to work though. [alfredix is from Germany]
When we use them, we don’t think about all the time, effort and creativity that it takes to make such a useful item. ATM NCR Personas 77 by merbhones is a very clean model that gives us time to check one out more carefully in 3D. [merbhones is from the Philippines]
Due to the continuous challenge of narrowing the number of great models uploaded each week down to just 10, I include five Honorable Mentions to spotlight even more modelers!
Honorable Mentions:
Water Lilly by 07smithle1995 is a beautiful use of texture and was modeled using 3DVIA Shape 2.1. [07smithle1995 is from Japan]
Skeleton Fossil by isaacmiller1993 is a very subtle model that if you take the time to get the viewing angle just right is really fascinating. It was modeled using DAZ Studio 2.3.
Chocolate Souffle Cake by trigram_QWQ (also known as abu_roadking) is included because I just plain love it and with cherries on top, it makes me hungry every time I see it. This yummy delight was baked up using 3DVIA Shape 2.1. [trigram_QWQ and abu_roadking are from the same place in India]
Heart of the Ocean created by isaacmiller1993 using DAZ Studio 2.3 is a beautiful necklace with wonderful details and just the right amount of color.
Just so we don’t think that sandman14 is obsessed with electric guitars only, this gorgeous Takamine Dreadnought Acoustic puts the issue to rest. Google SketchUp is sandman14’s instrument of choice. [sandman14 is from the US]
Here’s a brief recap of what I look for when I select the “Top 10″ and “Honorable Mentions”:
Variety – One of the most important factors. I try to show models created using lots of different software products and showing lots of different ways of using 3D. I include brief comments on why I chose each model.
Creativity, unusual subject matter and humor – These are big factors. We should all be having fun and feel free to model our passions!
Models must be uploaded by the original modeler – Many times I find models that I think will add to the community and will upload them with credit given to the modeler. These and other models that I can’t be reasonably sure who modeled them (for example – commercial models) are a welcome addition to the 3DVIA community, but the goal of the “Top 10″ is to encourage individual modelers and reward their special creativity.
Models entered in the 3DVIA Challenge contests will not be considered – They’re already getting plenty of attention and I want to spotlight models we may have missed.
There is no reward given – Other than the satisfaction of being noticed, spotlighted and being brought to the attention of more modelers. In my personal experience, the pleasure of having my work appreciated is the ultimate reward anyway.
Your comments are always welcomed and encouraged! Your responses will help the modelers and the 3DVIA community as a whole. Feel free to bring other models to my attention and let me know why they attracted you. (PLEASE NOTE: In order to make it easier to explore, all photos are linked directly to the model’s page.)
One final note of caution: these are my choices (dswavely) and my choices alone. So, aim the tomatoes appropriately.
