3DVIA Top 10 3D Models – 107

The ten best 3D models and one 3DVIA Experience uploaded to 3DVIA.com during the weeks of Saturday, February 12th through Friday, February 25th, 2011 are highlighted here. This week’s models will let you to stay at ground level and enjoy two different homes and two other environments. You can also zip around in an amazing super car or get some manufacturing done. If you feel more like flying, take the Tornado out for a spin. With the telescope you can explore even farther out into space and maybe even run into the Whitestar Butitus!

(Easy links to all 106 previous Top 10 posts are right after the current week’s models and Experience.)

The Top 10:

Now Alfred (alfredix) has added fabulous renderings of his Panavia Tornado ECR KPL to the exquisite detailing that he is already known for! He models in Pro/E and then translates everything to STEP format for uploading. [Alfred lives in Germany]

I like Onderlegger by mhamerslag for the huge amount of information that it conveys in a simple, yet elegant way. You can get a good feeling for site and roam where you wish. It was modeled using Google SketchUp.

“Cube is a game in process by 6 students of Isart Digital. We participate at the competition : Hits Playtime on LeMonde.fr.” Cube Hits Playtime by Akaihana gives a lifelike preview in their Experience that they created using 3DVIA Scenes. Visit their web site for more information.

Wow! Car BMW Efficient Dynamics shows Eleanor’s mastery of flowing forms and including all the right details too. She uploaded this beauty in 3DS format.

Un Appartement Plus Lumineux… by Architurn is a nicely appointed living space. It wouldn’t take long to help them move in – and there’s a Bud waiting for you on the counter. Architurn uses Google SketchUp.

I’m ready to come visit for a few months (as long as I get to drive the family super cars). Aakruti Family Bungalow Design with Interior Layout has excellent details everywhere you look! Ajitasmita built it using 3DVIA Shape.

Enrrique (perecat1) keeps adding to this model, so I grabbed one of the interim stages. What you’ll see when you go to the current version will be even better. His wonderful City Land even has it’s own monorail! Enrrique created this wonderful world using 3DVIA Shape.  [Enrrique lives in Spain]

The use of transparency helps make this installation so much easier to understand. Aspirazione Tg was modeled by paoloradaelli and uploaded in VRML format

Whitestar Butitas has a flowing, organic shape and textures that are really great! It was designed by Ron Thornton of Foundation Imaging and built by Kier Darby for Babylon 5.

Great modeling, an excellent exploded view presentation and peeking toes drew my attention to Forward-Neutral-Reverse Gearbox by shenoynitesh. I also love pictures that help show the process! It was modeled using SolidWorks.

This nicely detailed Telescope C11G11 was modeled by StilTeg using Google SketchUp. [StilTeg lives in France]

Just so everyone knows, the order that the Top 10 are displayed is based on color, type of model and how I’m feeling, not any particular ranking. I just rearrange them until I like the way it looks. It’s as simple as that!

Here’s a brief recap of what I look for when I select the Top 10:

Variety – One of the most important factors. I try to show models created using lots of different software products and showing lots of different ways of using 3D. I include brief comments on why I chose each model.

Creativity, unusual subject matter and humor – These are big factors. We should all be having fun and feel free to model our passions!

Models entered in the 3DVIA Challenge contests will not be considered – They’re already getting plenty of attention and I want to spotlight models we may have missed.

There is no reward given – Other than the satisfaction of being noticed, spotlighted and being brought to the attention of more modelers. In my personal experience, the pleasure of having my work appreciated is the ultimate reward anyway.

From time to time I will make mistakes and not follow my own rules – I will review these mistakes on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes I will change the post and sometimes I won’t. I will be consistently inconsistent. I am human.

Your comments are always welcomed and encouraged! Your responses will help the modelers and the 3DVIA community as a whole. Feel free to bring other models to my attention and let me know why they attracted you.

(PLEASE NOTE: In order to make it easier to explore, all photos are linked directly to the model’s page.)

One final note of caution: these are my choices (dswavely) and my choices alone. So, aim the tomatoes appropriately.

I’m also glad that Asmita and Nitesh made it into the Top 10. I only pay attention to the model when I’m in selection mode. Some times I am pleasantly surprised when I find out who made the model and what tools they used. :)

(PS: Seems there is a bug in the comments section. My comment was logged in using gems216 profile…)
