3DVIA Top 10 3D Models – 098

The ten best 3D models and one relaxing 3DVIA Scene uploaded to 3DVIA.com during the weeks of Saturday, November 6th through Friday, November 26, 2010 are highlighted here. We have a lot of ways to get places this week, from a leisurely trip on a canal boat to a speedy sail boat. Or you can try the two different buses, each with their own character.

We have some great destinations too! How about a visit to a tropical island, a fantastical world or St. Peter’s Basilica. Or you can spend some time playing virtual sports and then share a snack and a drink with your friends at the outdoor cafe. Dig in and have some fun!

Many thanks to Brian for your help while I was away!!

The Top 10:

Fantastic imagination and attention to details make Concept by Louis (Louisleo) really stand out! Every time I look at it I find something new. Louis created it using a VRML generator.

Uncle Russ by Bruce (brucehk) was modeled using Google SketchUp. It looks like a great friendly place to get together with family and friends!

When you need to kick back and just stop everything, try going to this Tropical Island by 3DSpaces. It was built using 3DVIA Scenes and with a few of your own additions you would have a paradise to visit and unwind!

PS-Media Court mit Dach was modeled by erhardsport using SolidWorks. It looks like it would be an inspiring place to practice and play.

You can use Soma 2 Port modeled by Nils Erickson for SomaSailing to quickly get back and forth to your Tropical Island! Nils used Google SketchUp. Visit the SomaSailing’s web site to learn more about them and their products.

St. Peter’s Basilica and Bernini’s Colonnade was modeled in painstaking detail by Enrico Dalbosco using Google SketchUp and uploaded by Arrigo Silva. You can learn much more about the history, design and construction at Arrigo’s Blogspot. [Arrigo lives in Italy]

Big Rock is another fantastical world imagined and modeled by Enrrique (perecat1) using 3DVIA Shape. Do some exploring and you’ll be surprised. [Enrrique lives in Spain]

Sieslu did this wonderful bus model using 3DVIA Shape. LFD BU – TRSM -C 2010 is colorful and has great proportions.

Alfred (alfredix) did a great job making his Improved Ribbon Bridge Modules amazingly real with all of the intricate detail. It’s really nice to see the extra effort that he made to show the various modules in closed and open positions! Alfred models using Pro/E and then translates the results into STEP format to upload. [Alfred lives in Germany]

Annonce by StilTeg looks like he would be friendly and definitely helpful in his world. He was modeled using Google SketchUp. [StilTeg lives in France]

Canal by Scott (Scottw) is fun to explore and imagine living next to a canal. Check out the detail in the buildings. He used Google SketchUp.

Just so everyone knows, the order that the Top 10 are displayed is based on color, type of model and how I’m feeling, not any particular ranking. I just rearrange them until I like the way it looks. It’s as simple as that!

Here’s a brief recap of what I look for when I select the Top 10:

Variety – One of the most important factors. I try to show models created using lots of different software products and showing lots of different ways of using 3D. I include brief comments on why I chose each model.

Creativity, unusual subject matter and humor – These are big factors. We should all be having fun and feel free to model our passions!

Models entered in the 3DVIA Challenge contests will not be considered – They’re already getting plenty of attention and I want to spotlight models we may have missed.

There is no reward given – Other than the satisfaction of being noticed, spotlighted and being brought to the attention of more modelers. In my personal experience, the pleasure of having my work appreciated is the ultimate reward anyway.

From time to time I will make mistakes and not follow my own rules – I will review these mistakes on a case-by-case basis. Sometimes I will change the post and sometimes I won’t. I will be consistently inconsistent. I am human.

Your comments are always welcomed and encouraged! Your responses will help the modelers and the 3DVIA community as a whole. Feel free to bring other models to my attention and let me know why they attracted you.

(PLEASE NOTE: In order to make it easier to explore, all photos are linked directly to the model’s page.)

One final note of caution: these are my choices (dswavely) and my choices alone. So, aim the tomatoes appropriately.

  1. Nothing better to start a good day, good news. This is one. This is what I call a “Great choice.” Thank you for including my model. I called attention to the model of the caravan, a great concept. @ Don: I see you’re doing homework. ??:>) . As I always say, little by little. My congratulations to all those selected have done a great job.

    • Always glad to help make your day a happy one!

By “homework” do you mean modeling in Shape? I go crazy when I don’t model! But, yes it does take a long time when the moments are so short.

  2. Thanks again for selecting one of my creations. I have less merit on that one which is more the addition of several softwares in order to acheive this result. One for moedling the creature base, one other for texturing, and finally google sketch-up to shape the details and publish it through 3DVia
    Thanks again Don !!

  3. Hi don, good to have you back :)

    Congratulations to the other modellers.

    Have a nice weekend

    Best regards
    alfred
