  1. I am not able to see those videos. :(
Which player/add on is required to play those video?

  2. Very nice tips and tricks!! very useful for simple operations… thanks Marc

    • You are very welcome! Stay tuned for more videos from the 3DVIA team. Let us know if you have a specific operation you would like to see in 3DVIA Shape.

  3. Does this function exist in CATIA? And it will exist one day, like NX with synchronous modeling??

  4. i got flash plug in if you don’t see screen you need to download flash plugin

  5. I have the flash plug-in, but it is saying “Movie not loaded…” checked the source and it’s pointing to youtube
Our company policy is block everything so no surprise that YouTube is blocked

  6. Can you post videos on your domain like 3Dvia Composer blog makes is 3DMojo Video Podcasts so we who are stranded behind company firewall can see videos also.

    • For the firewall and several other reasons, we will have an alternate version hosted here on one of our servers for users that need it. It should take a bit to convert and we will update this page when it is ready.

It’s primarily for marketing purposes that the videos are hosted on YouTube. 3DVIA Shape’s initial targeting is for consumers and more mass market that our typical software offering. However, we are seeing more business users showing interested in how simple it is to use.

In the meantime, is there a particular practice or video that you would like fast tracked for your viewing? You can also post a question here or in the 3DVIA Shape group. We are more than happy to help anyone learn.

      Thank you for the feedback.

  7. I can’t figure out how to get the flip handles (symmetry tutorial) or how to change the anchor point (pattern tutorial). Any tips?

  8. Spacebar! Got it…the video should mention that. I didn’t know when I was supposed to look at the help bar to see what key to press.

    • Hi Jacob

Oops! I guess that one slipped by us. Sometimes we’re too close to the product and miss the obvious. Thanks for letting us know and I’m glad that you figured it out!

      Don

      • I agree with Jacob, I would suggest this as one of the very few flaws of the software. It is a matter of luck to realize about this simmetry button.

      • Ok, here it´s the precise procedure:

        1) Select the object to copy.
        2) Press Ctl-C.
        3) Move the mouse where you aim to position the copied object.
        4) BEFORE and only before clicking the left-button of the mouse, press Space bar.
        5) Now the flip handles appear.
        6) Select the proper handle for your need.
        7) Select and click the reference point from the copied object.
        8) Select and click the reference point from the original object.
        9) Done.

  9. Very impressive and cool and useful tips and tricks.I LOVE 3DVIA SHAPE lol it is awsome and simple Thanks marc

  10. discovered something new:the cam amy work just like in 3dxml player, and if you select a surface and press ctrl+X it will erase

    • Hey sady!! I guess ctrl+X is for cut-paste. when you press ctrl+X it will cut (not erase) & then pres ctrl+V to paste it in another location. I used this a lot.

  11. I’m confused? “cam amy”? Could you add a little more information please :)

    • I believe he meant “camera aiming” as in “Aiming the camera works the same as the 3dxml Player”. Like he’s saying that you can use the keyboard shortcuts just like in 3dxml Player you can.

  12. Execellent.
Thinks to improve to make it perfect:

    - Free Move on a plane (Not only over axis)
    - 4 Plane views (xy, yz, xz, isometric)
    - more intelligent deform tool (some times is disbled when it could gues what to do)
    - pre created objects: ex: cones, truncated cones, pridamids.
    - to be able to save and reload my own precreated objects (when you insert an object from teh 3Dvia site you lost the components information and the object can only be used as a whole)
    - To be able to create simple object animations (along some time it becomes boring working only on static objects even for “grand Public”)

    • one more think,
I think 3dvia shape tool is excellent and it target well the general user. the problem is that once objects are created and published they are not exploitable any where. When I pass hours creating a complex object (even if at the beginning is for fun) I would eventually want to be able to useit some where else (my graphic design, my web site for showing my house, my tuorial for ilustrate the building of something, etc) On 3Dvia site they are only for fun and remember, any “toy” always finish by boring and put it away.
So I thnig next step in 3dvia should be make it usable in an external context in a natural way. (I know it exist 3dvia Printscreen and others, but the transition is not natural for the “general” user)

  13. i would like to see how to build a car

  14. dude you should really do something about the installation
i wish to create a path, not automatically install in C:\

  15. I don’t see how to create a flotaing element that is not placed at fllot

    • You can make your model (and unattached parts) “float” by selecting what you want to move and then clicking on the “Move” icon (third up from the bottom on the right) and then clicking on the “Up” arrow to move it up off of the ground.

I hope this works for you!

  16. I am haing real problems drawing donuts. I have watched the videos several times & have managed it only once in 3 days. Any hints & tips greatly appreciated. All the other things I have tried so far I have no problems with.

    • Is this the video that you’re using – http://3dvia.tv/3dvia-shape-3-0-tip-4-how-to-revolve-geometry/ ?

If you can revolve a cone or a cylinder, then you’ve got the basics already. The difference in making a donuts is that you usually have to add the axis – in the same plane as the circle and your preferred distance away from the circle.

Then use the push/pull tool to pick the both the circle and the axis, then start making your donut..

Let me know if this doesn’t work for you.

      • Thx everyone. I’ve now got more donuts than a cop on lunch break…lol. I was having problems getting the rotate point on the same plane as the shape I wanted rotating.
Now my only problem is “What to create”

        • Happy donuts! Glad that you got it figured out. You can make lots and lots of o-rings and lots of imaginary space stations. You can make jewelry – especially chains. The process will also come in handy many times when you’re making other things too. Have fun!

    • Make sure that the line is coming out of the side of the circle (if it doesn’t appear, use sketch points to create one) then from that line it goes straight up 90 degrees (the line will turn yellow while drawing). Then, move the mouse over the circle. Then choose then little white and orange “piece of cheese” that shows up in the bubble. Click the line and move the mouse, and this will create a donut. Is that clear enough?

  17. New user here. I have been trying to perform the advanced push/pull technique with no luck. I ran the video trick side by side and performed the steps verbatim. No Luck. What could I be doing wrong?

    • When you hover over the face you want to push/pull and then click on the advanced tool, does the line that you want to use as an axis/direction indicator turn orange when you move over it? Do any other lines turn orange too?

Is your model public or can you export and send me the 3DXML file? If so, I can open it and if you tell what you’re trying to do, maybe I can reproduce the problem.

Sorry for all of the questions, but it could be a lot of different things.

      • i do not see the “advance tool”

        • First you click on the “Push/Pull” tool (4th one up from the bottom on the right), then you move the mouse over the face that you want to revolve and wait just a sec and the advanced tool will appear. Then move your mouse over the advanced tool and click. The face should highlight in orange. Then you must pick an appropriate (in the same plane as the face) line or axis to revolve or extrude in a direction.

          • ok… now I get it!! I was able to get it to bend…little trickier than what i saw in the tutorial….but with few practice shapes, I’m sure i can get the hang of it…Thanx

  18. Good news rleone! I’m glad that you’re on the right track now!

    • ok…still having issues….I can’t seem to get a circular shape to work with the advanced push pull. what am I doing wrong. I am working it the same way as the square. Frustrated.

      • Are you trying to make a sphere or more of a doughnut shape? Your axis for a sphere can be the edge of a semi-circle. The axis for a doughnut shape has to be outside of the circle that you are trying to revolve.

        • i am trying to mak a 1″ diameter pipe 3′ long (placed horizontally) into a U

          • So the end face of the 1″ diameter pipe will be what you are going to revolve. Your axis has to be on the same plane as that end face. It should be vertical and the radius of your U away from the center of the pipe face. Pick the “Push/Pull” tool, then the pipe face, hover to get the advanced tool, click that (pipe face should go orange and then pick the axis which will turn orange too. Then do your rotation 180 degrees.

  19. Ok…finally got this done..somewhay… Now I watched the video on copying and pasting then using the mirror function….But i can’t seem to locate the mirror function…..How do I get to that

    • Once you press Ctrl v, then press the space bar. You’ll see all the potential mating points and three pairs of triangles, one for each axis, click on the pair you want and it should flip.

      • Ok tried everything….. Made a pyramid…but can’t make a cone….. it doesn’t work the same way… next tip please

        • Make a rectangle. Draw a line across it from corner to corner. Delete the section of the rectangle that you don’t want. Select the Push/Pull tool. Hover over the face you just drew and select the advanced Push/Pull. The face should turn orange. Then select the vertical line as the axis (or another line on the same plane). It should turn orange too. Then move your mouse to revolve the cone. If the face or the edge/axis don’t turn orange then they may not be in the same plane.

The video shows a vertical plane/rectangle being drawn, but it does not have to be vertical to work. Any angle will work. I do a lot of my drawing on the ground plane because I can easily be much more accurate. When I’m done, I just rotate it 90 degrees and I’m done.
