One of my favorites is the “How to build an Umbrella” video (Tip #34). This video is more like a 5 minute tutorial demonstrating many of 3DVIA Shape 3.1’s great features like freeform deform, revolve, and many others.

I thought you could only use orange deform tool on four sided shapes. Is that why you need 3.1 for this or could I have in fact done this in 3.0?
Hi tomy: Yes, that’s correct. The Freeform Deform tool can only deform a four sided (or pointed) shape and yes, the umbrella could have been made with 3.0. For those that may not have seen the Freeform tips and tricks video, check out Tip #19.
I can’t seem to get the orange mode to have the same effect on my umbrella. Whatever.
It is a bit tricky. One of the key points to creating the umbrella is the inner circle. On what parts of the umbrella are you having trouble?
The part after they make the dome shape then they use the orange tool to pull up the sides except I am making a different umbrella so I am pulling it down so maybe you should see it. http://www.3dvia.com/tomy/models/E6208CDCEEC0D2E4
Here’s a closed umbrella ready for remixing. Try deforming the panels by using the Freeform Deform tool. Be sure to click on the arc at the bottom of the panel.

im new to this but its good to be able to create round shapes more radical, i hope i can use this tutrioal to make some cool stuff. look at my latest creation, the desert eagle, now i can use this tutrioal and make the square gun in to an more round realistic gun
It’s great that you appreciate and are exploring some of the new features of 3DVIA Shape. 3.0 was the big upgrade, 3.1 was mainly minor bug fixes.

why wont it let me copy and paste
hey guys I have a problem
when I open 3DVia Shape (beta) it only give colours no textures lik when i click on roof, brick nothing comes in front
help me
