Nope, the idea actually came from a group of people at DS concerned by our environment and more widely by sustainable development. I let Juan know about this Challenge proposal and he greatly helped in making it real, thanks Juan :) We just added the 3R concept to give some constraints to the designs.

So the intent of this ecopackaging challenge was simply to let people unleash ideas that were maybe sleeping in their brains and waiting for some 3D to be take shape :) We finally got great designs as finalists, both promoting recyclable materials as well as combination of packaging with packaged. And actually, this challenge is only the first one in an ecodesign series, as we have other themes in the pipe, so stay tuned :)

Cheers.

3DAvenger,
Our challenges range from fully creative ideas to real world engineering solutions mostly due to our wide range of users. We have all kinds, from beginners who love 3D to architects and engineers with years of training and expertise. With almost 100,000 users, what's lame to you is novel to others and while this particular challenge may not seem like it’s up your alley, rest assured that there will be many more challenges to come, and we do try to mix up the subject matter a bit.

If you don't feel creative enough to participate in this challenge, I would hope you at least lend encouraging words to those others who do.

This is the lamest idea for a challenge yet.
Let me guess, you thought ecology was a hot customer friendly topic
likely to draw outsiders in your fake community, and then you realised
3DVia was functionally so poor that the subject of the challenge had
to be something which could be made out of rectangular pads, and BAM
it came to you : "eco crates". Lets paint textures on a lame pad and
call it eco crate, it sounds hip.
Here's a set of random hip terms : "nano, bio, 2.0, green, live,
lifelike", and here is a set of objects which may be easily drawn with
rectangular pads : "laptop, desk, dice, box, book, brick". You mix it
right and you'll have a kickass topic for your next challenge.

Yes, you can upload more than one model per challenge, but only one can be eligible for the prize.

Sometimes we get better ideas after finishing our first model or after seeing the other models in the challenge, so it is good to have a variety of models.

If you do upload more than one we will ask you which one you want to be entered and the others will not be considered.
