3DVIA Announcement: Now supporting COLLADA .dae Downloads
An exciting announcement from 3DVIA: We now support Collada’s DAE format for our library of 3D models. Watch this Cliff’s Clips video on 3DVIA.tv to see how this will benefit you:
The process is very simple: ANY model in ANY format you upload to 3DVIA.com gets automatically converted into a DAE file as well as a 3DXML file. The
DAE format includes any model you create in 3DVIA Shape, which is a great quick tool for creating 3D content. This content can now be used in most digital content applications like Adobe Photoshop and 3D applications used for film and gaming.
Yippee!

but not skechup
i could upload shape-made models to warehouse…
If you are referring to Sketchup KMZ models, they are not exported to DAE because KMZ is essentially a DAE file.
too bad :(
I could be wrong, but I think you can open KMZ models in sketchup and save them as a DAE if you want.
In my free version of Sketchup (7.0.10247), I cannot open kmz files, I can only export them (my only choice). I cannot load or export or save dae files either.
pity you won’t be able to export the model straight from 3DVIA shape application. for me the whole upload any model you create. rather than saving on your own harddrive. has been a turnoff in terms of using this program sofar. though at least with dae support its a step in the right direction.
dswavely with kmz files. all you have to do is open them up with say WinRAR or WinZIP. extract the contents. in them you will find a dae file. simple as that.
You’re right. I was only responding to mgbaron’s comment about opening kmz files directly in SketchUp.
oh sorry. :)
No problem :)
I would like the IFC exchange format to be available so that it can be used in the viewer or in shape
I just tried a new 3D object (with 3Dvia shape) but there is no DAE to download.
What is wrong ?
Can’t say for sure, but the entire database must be upgraded and rerun every now and then to include the upgrades. We are in the middle of one of those rebuilds right now, so that may have affected your particular model depending on where in the queue it is/was.
Sorry for the inconvenience, but even behind-the-scenes maintenance doesn’t always go perfectly (or should I say “rarely goes perfectly”, since it is a such a huge task for our entire data base).
Trevor – Is the model public? Can you post the link?
