This is where I would start: <a href="http://www.vray.com/" rel="nofollow"> http://www.vray.com/</a>.

Maybe we should discuss rendering engines in a future post, separate from formats.

KMZ is basically a DAE file in a zip with some custom google data such as the geographical location of the object for use in Google Earth. For most general uses of KMZ there is no real difference between it and DAE. However, for 3DVIA it is a slightly more convenient format than DAE because the file structure is consistent and dependable so we are more likely to interpret them correctly.

In an earlier post, it said that dae was better to upload in. But why is it better than 3dxml? The file is bigger (that means slower) and you have to draw on the outside and the inside, so even if I have sketchup, I would rather import to kmz. So isn't 3dxml better?

Great spotlight!. Very useful to learn the difference between those formats.
For next can you make a comparison between 3DXML and Collada?

Best regards
