>> How this challenge will be judged:
1. Voting on this challenge runs from August 4th through August 8th
On July August 4th, we will post and announce the “finalists”…or the best 5 models as chosen by our 3DVIA staff. During the Finalists week, the 5 models will be judged on 3 categories by our 3DVIA Judges and by popular vote from our community.
The 3 Categories are:
Artistic Design- Eye catching design, the coolness of the model.
Technical Accuracy - Mechanical or realistic accuracy and detail
Modeling Efficiency - Polygonal construction, modeling skill.
Current 3DVIA Judges Panel:
Matthew Baron - 3D Enthusiast Judge
Juan del Rio - DCC Judge
Don Swavely - CAD Judge
Each category will receive a value from 1-10 from each Judge. Each model will receive the average value of all the judges votes combined plus the percentage of their community vote multiplied by 10 (ie. if you received 45% of the votes, you would get 4.5).
2. The Winner Will Be Announced August 11th
We will post the winner here on August 11th…and announce the next challenge.

Hi juan,
Could you explain to no US people like me what is a luau?
I see on Wikipedia it was related to Hawaii party. Could you tell us more.
Thanks.

Hi Pierre,
I Luau is just a Hawaiian themed party. It might be useful for you to look at some pictures from google images to get a feel:

Nice to see judging on this one, people will get merit for their work. Hope it all works out for the best. Wish everyone luck on this one, it can go just about anywhere for ideas and scenes.

I agree with Vicky, of course this is an extra chalange, but it is a short time. I understand there is not a standard texture palet we can use. I think this would make the challange more fair. If you are an Texture expert you can mask a lot of mistakes in the model.
But its a cool contest

You best get crackin. lol

Maybe the next challenge can be who can make the most disgusting and gross thing possible. lol…….Or not.
July 31st, 2008 at 6:28 am
heh that would be a hard challenge, mainly because most people would make like a dirty toilet or some sort of halo demented flood thing. i think we should do a spacecraft or sci fi competition because thats something i think alot of people on here like and its my modeling specialty.

That would be a great idea as well, but the only thing that would be a concern to me is that everybody and their brother has a sci-fi model some where and I’m not sure that the judges want to sift through 10,000 model entries. lol. Lord knows I have quite a few. lol.
I think I will just leave it up to the experts to come up with challenge ideas, although this latest challenge “the luau” has produced the least amount of entries out of all four challenges so far. Hey, how about a tribute to “road kill” ? LMAO.

Well I was planning on entering after I seen how this one went. Last one was a joke, took no skill to win, just friends. Its not a contest or a challenge if it doesn’t look at skill, just how many people you can “con” into voting, and no registration required to even vote, just browse by and click your vote. I want to see how it goes with judging, see if its on merit or if its still a the same as it was. If it has improved I will start joining the contest again.
Good Luck all,
Rob

@emag I like the spacecraft idea.
@MVComputer Road kill? I’m not so sure :)
@Ice-Child I think the challenge rules proposed should be good for models that excel in multiple categories including not only skill, but also models that are more about fun. We’ll see how it goes and adjust as necessary :)

I think we all need to let go of the past and move on. lol. Maybe we need to hire a grief counselor because the last challenge seems to have traumatized some folks. LMAO!
I hear Dr. Phil’s career is going down the tubes, I bet we could get him for a pretty good price. lol. Anyway, good luck yall : )
