Great entries, everyone. It was very hard to choose this time!

I go over to a friends house and this topic came up. So he comes here and browses over the entries. Then he votes, when I see the current standings. Its nice to know it takes no skill, just friends to win here. I am not knocking the current leader, but it shows there is no skill involved in winning a contest here. I mean its all about how many people you can talk into coming and voting, no skill involved. Hell I could have made a hotdog with wheels had all my friends and family, co-workers and their friends come vote and I can win here. No skill involved. On that note I am done with any contest on 3dvia, it has proven itself to be a joke and lacking in any real skill or talent to win.
This is my last post of any kind on this site, so enjoy, and hopefully my comment might make the people who run this sight think about future contest. You cant run them like this, its a farce in all sense of the word.
Later all,
Rob

You know, I think the Oscar Meyer wiener mobile would have been a great entry. lol
So get all your family, friends and co-workers to vote for you. I did. I am working it within the rules posted. Sorry to hear that your so upset but it is all in fun. Hell, I lost the last contest to a very good artist but you don’t see me crying about it. Cheer up man, it’s not the end of the world.

I voted for you Ice-Child. Your model is great! Has a lot of personality!

hi,,,
Ice Child has right… 3DVIA should have an independent judge… who really knows about 3d modelling…the worst modell easily can be the winner if all the family member vote…so alles gute ….

WOW, what controversy. I sure did not see this coming. lol Maybe we should get some one within 3DVIA to judge but I think there will still be those who will complain if they don’t win. Some folks just don’t have good competitive spirit and if that continues to be the case then maybe there should be no challenge at all. I couldn’t care less because I just enjoy posting models and chatting with others. I don’t mind losing to a more talented modeler than myself, it just makes me try to become better at it and I think thats what it is all about or at least part of it. Maybe I’m totally wrong here and feel free to tell me so but this is how I see it.

@MVComputers, I was in no way knocking your model or your ability. I am knocking how they did the contest. With no judging panel he with the most friends and biggest family wins. Had there only been enough entries to make the contest. Then if the guy with the worst model got all his friends family guild/clan to come here for 30 seconds and vote, he could win over someone with tons more skill, and a way better mode3l. I noticed when the voting had just opened and you got like 15 votes and nobody else had any. Made me think, then I went back and re-read the rules again. It says right in them to tell you friends to come vote. I would think it tracks voting by IP. I have about 12 computers here in total I could get 12 votes and never change a single IP address. If I wanted to start changing IP address I could win by default because I could just sit here for a few days and keep changing IP’s so I could run my total up.
My point is 3dvia needs a judging panel. Voting works, but you need some more skilled and qualified people for the biggest part of it. Make a panel of judges, people who know how and what to look for. Also someone who has been around for awhile and would have a decent idea or maybe even know for sure if someones posted entry is actually someone else’s work. Let the models biggest portion of score be from those judges and let the public, non-member voting be a much smaller portion. I mean its cool and all to have all your friends come vote, but they shouldn’t be the only deciding factor. In other words, put a panel behind every contest or it just comes down to the guy with the most friends wins.
My two cents, make a judging panel, and let viewers vote. But the biggest portion of the score/decision should be from the judging panel. Let someones skill win a contest, not the amount of friends and family they have.

I totally understand where you are coming from but I did not influence my people what so ever, I just asked them to pick the model they liked best and so they did. I put no gun to their head or twist their arms. Believe me when I say if they thought my model was crappy, they would have told me so, thats just how they are. I didn’t think it was fair that the other actual dragster submitted didn’t even make the finals. I mean it is about dragsters and not race cars in general, isn’t it?. I thought a dragster was long and spindly, big tires in back and tiny ones in front with a great big motor some where in between. Oh well, who am I to say what a dragster is anyway “tomato-tomoto. Keep up the fight and good luck on your mission.

My model: CATIA_Dragster_3DVIAChallenge3
My dragster is in Top Model but it is not in final of 3DChallenge, why???

@Ulthor Top Models are currently hand selected by 3DVIA staff, while the contest is *currently* voted on by your peers.

I’ve been talking with Ice-Child some about this via 3DVIA Direct Messaging, but I thought I should recap here since this seems to be a matter of public concern. I want to remind people that the 3DVIA Challenge is young (this is only the third). We rely on feedback from users to set the course for future contests, and we are certainly taking the feedback received here very seriously. The ideas in these comments are good suggestions that we will certainly take in consideration.
I’m curious what people think of the following ideas:
1. Challenge is judged by a rotating panel.
2. Challenge is judged by the community, but voting requires a 3DVIA login.
3. Challenge is judged by the community, but voting requires a 3DVIA login AND some minimum criteria such as a minimum number of original models to prove your credibility as a judge.
Other ideas? Let’s figure this out…
Please try to keep your comments positive and respectful. We are trying to build a community that is supportive and encouraging, and it only takes a small spark to start a flame war that could hurt the community as a whole.

I say everyone just votes for me. lol Just kidding. I think a panel of judges or 3dvia members only are two great ideas. Maybe on the next two challenges use both and see wich works out best.

hey as long as there is no money involved if you win its just for fun, but i make stuff thats not for competitions all the time just because its fun to take an idea and turn it into something you can look at from different angles and even sell to some people, im mainly happy that my car was chosen as a top model on 3dvia which is really something because on the sketchup site that i also post on most of my stuff is beat out by imports from turbosquid and video games. oh and if your interested in checking out some of my stuff that i posted on the sketchup warehouse heres the link http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?uq=07623783009557982036&scoring=d
