		&lt;p&gt;It was nicknamed the Peacemaker. Convair, the maker of the plane, proposed the name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_B-36#cite_note-1), but if was not official. Many aircraft are better known by their nicknames than their  &quot;official' designations. Using such questionable names for war machines continues to this day. 

Ironically, the B-36 never dropped a single bomb or fired a shot at an enemy, although it did manage to drop (and lose in the ocean) one nuclear device as well as dropping another by accident in the New Mexican desert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convair_B-36#Notable_incidents_and_accidents). So, it's hole-making activities were quite limited.&lt;/p&gt;
