I made this model, to show a typical situation for the usage of those electro carts that I uploaded earlier this week.
I chose the A-7 for this scene, because it is one of my favorites.
The electro cart with the handling crane just unloaded a GBU-10 bomb from the cradle on the dolly trailer. It is now about to load the bomb on the bomblift, which is already in position to put the bomb on the free pylon under the left wing of the A7.
A few stats on the model / files:
original STEP file: 54MB
STEP after cleaning: 32.2MB
STEP zipped: 7.6 MB
3DXML file : 2.3 MB
the model contains 399 unique parts
In total there are 1069 parts and assemblies in the whole model.

Fantastic scene! What a great combination of models to tell a complete story (well, except for the aircraft carrier and a couple other things).
PS I’ll never get your Featured Artist article done if I have to keep checking out even more great models! (That’s not a complaint :D)
just loves those electro carts and the different purposes they can be used to..
@Smike: thank you, they are my own design, even though I know those carts existis in reality, I did not check for any references.
@Don: Thanks Don. If I add a Carrier that is built my way, I probably have to buy a Cray Computer to work on it :)
PS: I’ll give you a chance this week :) I need to do some maintenance on my PC, so there won’t be a lot of news from my side. :D
the sizes and number of components are really awesome!
do you relly have 1069 parts there?!
Yes, a carrier in your style alfredix would probably crash our servers too :D!
Your computer probably just needs a vacation to get some rest…
Congratulations alfredix! Your model has been included in the 28th weekly Top 10 models blog with pictures and links to your model.
Go to http://www.3dvia.com/blog/3dvia-top-10-models-028/ to check it out!
This model is fantastic! The detailing are awesome, everything is awesome!! 5 stars :D
thank you Oscar :)
a carrier?not sounding bad…i think you alredy gave him an idea
we…i mean 3dvia has some kind of super-computers.a short mintal calculation shows that at 20000 models, each about…3mb in 3dxml would mean 0.2 TB.most of the super-computers are having way more!
now, depending of the additional space given by the original file,it should mean 0.35TB(maximum).not so much…
so why is a restriction around those ‘2’ and ‘10’ MB?!
and my the way, what has to do the 3dxml with the xml(eXtensible Market Language…what, i am on a math-informatic highschool!)
I think the restriction does not come from harddisk space. (you calculated that one, right?)
The bigger the models, the more traffic is produced on the line. so you need more powerful computers to handle that. To keep it somehow managable, I think that is where the limit comes from
If I am right, than you XML-3DXML question will be covered in one of the next “formats” video.
Those of us with “slow” DSL connections (at home) know how painfully long the larger models take to download.
Please respond to Cliff’s request for what the next format video should be about. That way he’ll know for sure.
maybe the way they work is based on a HTML function that allows to work in the player.but i don’t see how the .kmz,.dae,.obj etc would be converted…
the 3dxml format-a mistery for ‘sherlock homeless’(that’s a pun.if any sieter, nephew or succesor of sherlock holmes sees that,i want not to be upset)
