I love the character and the gameplay seems very well polished, can we get more details on the game? team size, time and game engine? :)
Well it was a team of 5 people, 2 artists (Myself for 3D and a 2D artist) and 3 programmers, the official word is that you get 10 weeks to make the prototype which is a bit of a lie, in reality its closer to 9. We used a game engine called Instinct:
http://www.instinct-tech.com/
We used instinct due to the fact that our lead programmer already had experience with it, apart from that however nobody on our team had any real experience making a game, us artists were completely ignorant to the whole game making process :) it was my first experience with a game engine… scary.
The competition is an opportunity for university students to experience working in a professional game development environment, it begins with a basic idea submission, from the 100s of submissions a handful are chosen to move on to the “pitching” stage. There a team presents their idea to 3 industry professionals (I cant begin to describe how scary that is) the pitch must show that your game meets the 3 key requirements, I believe they are:
-innovation
-use of technology
-commercial potential
If chosen the team gets the opportunity of turning the brief into a prototype game.
We had lots of mentors from game companies visiting offering advice and opinions, and on top of that the 3 winners of the competition have a chance of winning a BAFTA (British Academy Television Awards) If you want my opinion this game deserves to win the big prize:http://www.daretobedigital.com/team-information/team.php?idTeam=246
I cant tell you how much I appreciated taking part (even though we didnt win :( ) Getting to talk to some pretty experienced individuals within the games industry and having one to one time with them as they help you along, its pretty awesome. I cant wait for July when the next Dare to be Digital competition begins and see what new crazy idea are created.
congrats for the longest comment on 3dvia :)
