The Piece of Bread That Fell Wrong Side Up!!!

A man was quietly eating his breakfast. Suddenly, the piece of bread that he had just spread with butter fell to the ground.

Imagine his surprise when he looked down and saw that it landed buttered side up! The man thought he had witnessed a miracle. Excited, he went to tell his friends what had happened, and they were all amazed; because when a piece of bread falls on the floor, it nearly always lands buttered side down, making a mess of everything.

“Perhaps you’re a saint,’ one friend said. ‘And this is a sign from God.’

Soon the whole village knew, and they all started animatedly discussing the incident: how was it that, against all expactations, the man’s slice of bread had fallen on the floor buttered side up? Since no one could come up with a credible answer, they went to see a Teacher, who lived nearby and told him the story.

The Teacher requested that he be given one night to pray, reflect, and seek divine inspiration. The following day, they all returned, eager for an answer.

‘It’s quite simple really,’ said the Teacher. ‘The fact is, that the piece of bread fell exactly as it should have fallen, but the butter had been spread on the wrong side.’

thanks Don :)

@tomy: its from a paulo coelho book titled “like the flowing river”… its kind of a “chicken soup” series… short stories, anecdotes, passages, motivational / inspirational stuff… i share these stories in 3D form with my teammates to make them (stories) more interesting…

You’re welcome Abu. I’m reading Paulo’s “Pilgrimage” right now after taking a break to read Daniel Quinn’s “The Story of B”, which was very intense and challenging to many of our bedrock concepts of what humans are. Defintely worth reading.

you amaze me with the your reading speeds Don… how do you find time???

i mean, have been following your comments about reading stuff and i seems that you do multiple titles at a time or have lightening speeds… but the stuff you’ve mentioned are not light reading material, some are heavy ones, not easy to read and understand…

eg. i’ve been reading zen since so long… but can’t flip thru a bunch of pages at a time… usually reading aloud to understand some of the philosophy… had it been a regular fiction i wouldn’t have taken much time…

Abu; as you know, when you are enjoying something, times seems to pass more slowly. I only read about 30 minutes a day, just before I sleep and I am not a speed reader. I’m usually am reading about 6-8 books at a time and choose the one that fits my mood at the time.

Your introduction to Paulo Coelho has been greatly appreciated – thanks again.
