Walkthrough:
1. Create a circle & divide 2 lines passing through centre to divide it in 4 parts.
2. Copy the two red portions, paste (ctrl+V) & press spacebar. Now rotate it by 45degree & paste it so that circle divide in 8 parts. Draw a small circle in middle & remove extra lines
3. Use deform tool (orange mode) select the intersecting points with the small circle (be careful with selection, only points to be selected, anything else would not work with deform tool) {check the blue circles made on small circle for reference} & drag it upwards.
4. Select the edges & using orange mode pull upwards to make dome shape
5. Draw the front portion as shown. Make a c opy of the sketch & paste it just top of it.
6. Extrude the sketch to give some thickness. Use defom tool select the corner edges & pull it downwards. Again select deform tool & pull the front edges (only not whole surface) upwards, which will create a semi circular bend.
7. Draw the bends on top image & extrude to bottom surface. Now create intersection by drawing a line in between top surface to bottom one.
8. Remove extra geometry & you will get the bends on curved surface beneath.
9. Paste it to the actual dome shape, which you previously made.
10. Draw at the back surface & extrude to cap. Then create intersection & remove extra geometry.
Your cap is ready. Be sure to add good images & additional objects for styling.

Now you know that I didn’t use revolve tool … revolve tool won’t give a perfect result that I needed so I have used deform tool instead.

Another great tutorial Parth. Thanks!

I find the more complicated background somewhat distracting to understanding each step. Just a small nit to pick. :)

Don I have changed my comments to erikkirkebo’s models. I hope that’s OK now. Sorry for being a little rude…You see these things happen even if I don’t want to do :( Thanks to you for keeping good eye on everything no matter how small/big that is.

Thank you Parth. I certainly have to practice restraint in my own comments. (Many times I have struggled with a positive way to say something that needs to be said.) Sometimes it is not easy. I think that as a community we all do a great job of helping each other, I’m just a bit like a referee every now and then. :D
