This cracks me up and brings back memories too! I was on a business trip to San Jose (semi-conductor manufacturing & testing equipment show) and had a chance to drive over the hills (with a fantastic stop in a redwood grove) to Santa Cruz and enjoy a walk along the beach and a visit to a gigantic book store near UCSC.

Needless to say, there were banana slugs on everything! I bought t-shirts for my three sons, who were then in elementary school, and they absolutely loved them! Our small Massachusetts town found out all about banana slugs! :D

The slugs actually have an important symbiotic relationship with the giant redwood trees, which is really cool too. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbiosis )

My son graduated from UCSC, so I have a few banana slug items.

I envy his matriculation location!!
