I am no expert, but I thought viking kept what they killed, after the capt took his pick! so a viking could be wearing any helmet that the previous owner no longer needed. I may be wrong!

Blood Red Rubies look awesome in the Fresnel Shader…
The only Viking I happen to know is HAGAR The Horrible… :) and he wears a horned helmet…
Jokes apart… on reading wiki i found that this is popular misconception about the Vikings. Few instances do imply usage of horned helmets for rituals but none for actual usage in combat. For more details check “Common misconceptions” at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vikings
Anyways, present model minus history lesson, Great Job!!! Simple yet frightening :D

ofcourse the vikings kept a lot of the things they looted on there raids but there cloathing and weapons most of the time was made specially for on person and could have taken a lot of time making
so each viking was equipped to be able to deal with all kinds of extreme weather so they had no need at all for taking and using items they “found” on the way..
when the longships whent out an raids eaach viking had a large wooden box/crate with them with all there belongings in it..
and the vikings was not aluaded to keep any thing before they came home and the king/chief has got his share of it.
then a part of the treasures was giving to the wife of those men there was killed on the tour..
about the horns on the helmet has there never been found any helmet with horns..
there has never been written or mentioned souch a item in the old sagas and tales.
the horns on the helmet turned up over 500 years after the viking age in pictures and art mainly from germany..
the rest was then split out to each viking there had been on the raid..

how you did the horns?
you made a half of a donut and you made the radius of the top circle bigger with the green deform?i was speculating at that from months ago,but never tried

Small circle, big circle and one curve as spine.

Then finishing top of the horn by selecting small circle and passing point.

Thanks everyone for both the historical information and for the modeling tips (and great illustrations Juwak). That’s the main thing that I like about 3DVIA users – they are incredibly well-informed and they share!!
