About Your Viewpoint

The viewpoint is the way you look at your model as you work.

Changing Viewpoints

Your point of view is particularly important because it determines the plane on which you draw, so you must orient the viewpoint correctly before you start. The pictures below illustrate this.

You are looking at the horizon... ...and the rectangle is drawn in a vertical plane.
You are looking at the ground... ...and the rectangle is drawn on the ground.

Changing your viewpoint frequently as you work is also important since this helps you create accurate models quickly and easily.

The best viewpoint is to look directly at the objects you are drawing, and then adjust this viewpoint slightly to see any objects in the background. Pan, rotate and zoom to change your viewpoint.

Notes:

  • The grid you see represents the ground. You can change grid orientation and the units of measurement. For more information, see Customizing the Grid.
  • Model space is limited to a 20 kilometer-sided cube whose center is located at the origin. You cannot create geometry outside model space limits.
